It only took one moon!

The Coyote Two Moon 100 was a heater down in Ojai, California. Temps topped out at 85F on the sunbaked climbs up to the Ojai Ridge. The other round ball rose early and brought the temps down to 35F in the valleys making it a huge contrast in temperatures. I had a stellar run passing through halfway in 8:45 and cruising to the finish in 19:24. I’m not sure what my final time will be as I had at least 30 bonus minutes for participating in the pre-race activities. Dean Dobberteen led the bowlers with a 206, I rolled a modest 168. Dean was on my team as we won the bowling match. Andy Jones-Wilkins and Justin Angle ran the “fun run” together and finished with a 23:44 for 2nd and 3rd, giving my “win” a margin of 4:20. Betsy Nye took the women’s run, just barely chicking Roch Horton.

Chris Scott puts on an incredible week of events. The easter bunny was also spotted up on the ridge at the Gridley Top aid station…good thing the Coyote’s didn’t get him.

And one more stat, this was the first 100 Iran in LaSportiva Fireblades…I haveNO blisters, or foot issues to speak of. Check outthis review, I agree100 percent! And BC.com carries them!

Next bit of info will be the AT itinerary. I’ll have that posted on April 1st. BC.com is driving the bus on this one. It certainly will be quite an adventure! Stay tuned for more info on this.

And don’t forget the 15% discount at BC.com. Use the coupon code 2JV-1-QJE3H to get 15% on almost everything they sell. Lots of great deals all the time!

My next odds race will be Leona Divide and the McNaughton 100 coming in a few weeks.

    What?! No McNaughton 150 odds?!

I will also post the 150 odds…What was I thinking. It might be out of my realm though! Thanks for all the congrats! Coyote Rocks!

i think i only saw you climbing during C2M, and you looked strong each time. especially coming out of thatchers in that heat. great race on a tough course! the AT is nearby–would love to help out if you need it while passing through the DC/VA/MD vicinity.

Speed goat, when you passed me at mile 85 you made up 12 hours on me. I tired to pick up my pace running up to Gridley Top a/s but your head lamp disappeared into the moon lit night amazingly fast. Super impressive run at such a tough venue. Even though my time was 16 hours slower then your I still have the same buckle.
Incredible job man and thanks for the tip on the Fireblades.

    OK, Karl, start explaining. …

congrats! You passed me 2 times last year during the 50 at McNaughton so my odds of getting passed more than double that many times this year in the 100 are 2:1 by my estimate, I could be low balling there maybe 1:1 :) See you then!

A stellar performance, indeed: we doubted anyone would break 24 hours, let alone 20!! Glad you came out to enjoy our mountains and enjoy ALL the days of C2M. Here’s to a speedy recovery…

Brennen, That would be the “race leaders hat”. Just like the Yellow Jersey at the Tour De France. More races should have fun stuff like this. It now sits in my trophy room. Damn good shot! Thanks for that one!

  12. 12 wynn davis

Did the propeller on the hat give you extra propulsion?

Way to go man! nice run

  13. 13 Brennen

Let’s just hope Glenn Tachiyama submits it to UltraRunning as a cover shot.

And just wait till you see what you have to wear through New York state while running the AT. …

Trophy Room? TROPHY ROOM?!!? Mine’s in the bathroom next to the shampoo. How big is yours?

…and yes, congratulations on a run that I’d guess will be purty dang tough to even get close to… maybe with BM’s your final official time could be below 17 hours, unless more postings (Trophy Room?) invite some cancelling Boner M’s…

  15. 15 gtach

Submitted to UR for their consideration, Brennen.

Karl, it was a joy watching you tear up that course!

  16. 16 Chris

    Nice! That hat rocks.

You need to wire it to your headlamp - no more batteries. Wind power, baby!

    http://www.pbase.com/gtach/image/94757660

Seriously, though. That is a great shot and looks like it sums up the effort well. Great job on the Una Luna!

  17. 17 Speedgoat Karl

My downstairs is my trophy room! After all these years those trophies have started to add up. I hope to stumble over everything when I’m 80! I sure was salty in those pictures, I guess that’s the answer! I like the windpower idea, but that might be muling! Or would it? I might get some boner miles for finishing too fast, but I countered that by racking up about 40 minutes before the “run”.

Once again, nice running Karl. Way to smoke em!

Great fast 1st 100 for the year. I do hope they put that shot of you on the cover!

  22. 22 Speedgoat Karl

That photo was a winner! If I actually get it it’ll be my first Ultrarunning cover after running Ultras for 11 years! We’ll see, the goofy hat should sell it!

  23. 23 Wasatchspeedgoat

Nice run Karl, you blew by me so fast I don’t know which was moving faster you or the propeller on your hat?

Keep it up, your timeless. The new master standard is here~
