This weekend was a blast down in Vegas for some R & R, some flying, driving, and hanging out with the Red Bull Team. Base Jumping and Skydiving were some key highlights (among other things you can only see in Vegas) as Red Bull Launched it’s first new product in 20 years! Red Bull Cola!
And for those who don’t know….HARDROCK IS ON. It’s gonna be fast sliding down Grant Swamp Pass! and you’ll be on your ass on Virginius Pass too!
Backcountry.com has been putting together the pieces for the Appalachian Trail Assault. For weekly updates on how my training has been going, check whereskarl.com. I might even mention how many miles I actually run. Some more cool video should be out soon too.
This past weekend it snowed at the Bird, keeping the Speedgoat 50k course deeply buried under avalanche debris and 15″ of snow out in Paradise and Little Cloud Bowl. Let’s hope it starts melting soon!

Hey Karl,
Hope all is well - I know you aren’t a super weatherman, but I figure you’d have a better answer to this question than me trying to guess - what are the chances that the Speedgoat 50K course will still be under snow at the start of the race? Is all this snow unusual or normal for this time of year?
And oh yeah, are there results somewhere online from last year’s event?
Awesome, thanks man.
- Greg
Hello Greg, The Speedgoat 50K course could possibly have snow in Little Cloud Bowl, otherwise, it should be clean, even with the amount of snow this year. If there is snow in LC Bowl, just prepare to posthole, cuz’ we aren’t changing anything, it’ll just make it more interesting. Last year’s results are in the hands of Scott Mason who has been a slacker getting those to me, and is out of my hands at the moment. Petra McDowell won last year with a 5:40 time. This year the course is very different, so the times won’t really show anything. It is longer this year at 31 miles, last year it measured 26 miles (thanks Alta) with 12,000′ climb. I’ll try and retreive the results, and if I get them, I’ll post them. -Karl
Wow - awesome… sounds like quite the adventure!!!
Looking forward to it - thanks for the update,
- Greg

I usually do not leave comments, but I thought this was a great post! Red Bull Cola Launched this Weekend in Sin City at KarlMeltzer.com was a wonderful read. WoW:)
