My Anterior Tibialas is tweaking. It’s swollen and unrunnable right now. Needless to say, the record will remain in AT’s (Andrew Thompson) hands. My plan now is to pop vitamin P (Prednisone) for a few days and see what happens, along with ice baths a few times a day. I am not quitting yet, vitamin P sometimes has an incredible affect on inflammation, and I will continue if it comes around….quitting this early is not an option. Thanks for all the support and cross your fingers, cuz’ it ain’t over yet.
Please refer back to whereskarl.com for any future comments, all info will now be at that site. This one is now MOOT, like the itinerary!

Sorry, Karl! Heal up and enjoy the rest of the ride!

Karl
Here’s hoping the Vitamin P does the trick. If not, you’re still amazing and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed tracking your progress.

Sorry! What a stinker! If it gets better within a reasonable time, keep going! The rest of the trail is beaufitul, and will give you good beta for next year

Good luck Karl, wish you the best. Should be great weather for the rest of the run, so enjoy it.

Hope you can get back out there Karl!
It’s been a lot of fun following your progress along the way…
Hope Vitamin P helps you to keep moving, is a bummer that this has happened this early on
Best wishes
Karl, regarding popping “Vitamin P”, you may already be aware of this, but it is EXTREMELY (like life-threatening) dangerous to do this for only a few days unless at very low doses (e.g. 5mg or less.) I’ve had to go on prednisone several times for episodes of gout, and the doctors have cautioned me repeatedly to make sure to do the standard prednisone taper of lowering the dose slowly over several days to a week or more, depending on the starting dose. I’m sure they were being overly cautious, but it can do things like cause heart attacks if not done correctly.
Oh, crap…sorry it happened. Best layed plans get affected by life? Heal up, Karl, you rock!
Bummmer!!! We’ve (fellow Sandy residents) been following your progress with great interest. Hope your mended and back on the trail soon!! You rock regardless. All the best.
It ain’t over yet,
I know how prednisone works and have taken it many times in the past for issues such as this and it worked beautifully, in regards to a heart attack, it can happen to anyone. The doses I am taking are on a tapering dose, like it should be. My doc knows best
I love the speech! The record will remain ATs but its not over yet? Take it real easy today, Siera Nevadas Pales, ice & elevate. Tomorrow, if possible, go after it. There are too many hours in a day to take away your shot at the record if you can get back on your feet. Sleep is way over rated! I will be looking for those inconsistent yet welcome spots, at all hours, starting up again and gaining on the record. If not, lay low and finish. Next year they are calling for no rain in Maine.
Injuries are tough! Often more mentally difficult than physically. Take the time you need rather than risk a long protracted recovery.
Remember, the trail will be there later this year or next, or the one after that.
That said, sounds like you are up to keeping this effort rolling on! Good Luck!
Karl,
Keep that goat-chin up! You are living the dream. Thanks for letting us go along for the ride.
Chris
Dude! I’m pulling for you! It’d be great if you can recover enough in the next few days to keep going. All the best!
I have completely enjoyed following your journey and look forward to more after you re-launch. Enjoy the time off and heal fast! There are beautiful sections ahead.

Karl,
Dang on the “non running status”. Do have fun with the rest of the “ride”
Go-go
Karl, I thought you had done the most difficult given the reports coming out the first days, with this awful weather you endured (I love California for a reason…!).
Hope you heal fast and well enough to keep on with your journey on the AT. All the best to you and your crew to get enough patience until then.
Jean.
Farther Faster
Sh*%#y man! Well, at least it doesn’t suck to be running (or limping) around in the woods in a strange land. I bet if you keep the beard growing, you will get better.
Karl ,
I am hoping for your speedy recovery and please remember to look for my parents John and Pat Mc Breen Near Winchester, Va. Oh’ I have been fortunate to learn from your trail running expert, Mr. Scott Jurek. Wow, Both of you rock.
God Bless !!!!
