Is it spring yet?

I guess it’s time to start running more than 40 miles per week!  The snow is finally melting out here in the front range of SLC.  More vertical to be had, and actual dirt to run on.  Running on ice and snow is overrated.

A few cool races are around the corner.  The Old Pueblo 50…deep in the desert of Arizona on March 7, and the all too popular Way Too Cool 50k in Cool, California on March 14.  I’ll do odds for WTC on my next post….and I won’t procrastinate either!  And how can I procrastinate on that, I’m headed back there for a third run at it… gotta see what this old man can run.  After Moab,  it should be pretty good.  Especially with those whopping 40 mile weeks behind me.

The Speedgoat 50k apps have been coming in steadily now, so it’s time to put it on the list and start running some hills.   I’ll post an entrants list soon….if I don’t procrastinate.

I still have a few spots left for coaching services.  If you need some advice, now’s the time of year to get it rolling….or running.

For gear reviews, check out my page at Backcountry for all kinds of knowledge about all kinds of gear.

And a belated congrats to AJW for smoking the course at Rocky Raccoon!  We’ll see if he has any legs left at Cool.  Perhaps he’s training for Hardrock?  He’d better get on some hills!  And get up high! :-)

I’ve decided to stack together some 100s again this year.  I’ll be running Massannutten, Bighorn, and Hardrock.   Then I’ll run Wasatch, Bear, and Grindstone.  Maybe Pinhoti if I can afford it too.

Now I’m gonna go run on some dirt, today’s 61 degree high should be nice.

Now go run!

Hey Karl, great to read your post and thanks for the congrats. I will certainly not have legs at Cool but I never have. That said, it’ll be fun to try to string together a WS/HRH Double in June/July. Plus, it makes for a great family vacation…Squaw, Auburn, Silverton, Ouray, Telluride, you get the drift. See you in a couple weeks.

AJW, you are such a sandbagger. No legs, huh? You seemed to finish a 100 miler a few weeks ago with no problems. You still on for buying beers for the Oregonians who beat ya?

  3. 3 Speedgoat Karl

And the Utah boys that beat you! I like beer.

  4. 4 FastED

AND the Colorado boys who beat you! How many bets did you make? AJW - you might as well buy the keg of PBR from the bar….

I like beer - ALOT! I run to drink more beer!

Since we are in California, let’s make that a Sierra Nevada PA keg, I drink enough PBR.

We’ve uncovered two of JizzleWizzle’s many issues: drinking and gambling. And this guy is a role model for our youth.

I think the rest of you guys are younger, but he usually gives time if you’re older than him. And, yes, I’m not too proud to take the minutes he gives me.

How about we also add a trump card that if a chick from our respective state beats him he buys all from that state beer.

The bet with the Oregonians was 5 min + or - your age. They kicked my ass at WTC and I kicked their asses worse at WS (except for Hal, of course). You, Mr. M11, I can’t believe you call me a sandbagger. Look at you last year at Cool, Miwok, etc…

I have made no bets with runners from any other states although I have suggested that this could be the year for FastEd and I to go head-to-head and he needs a few PBR’s to pour on his RR wounds, anyway. As for Karl, well, I’m not sure I want to start this but, how about we make a wager for HRH? You wanna start?

I don’t think you want to make a wager with me at Hardrock :-) You should just buy the beer now for that one. I won’t run no 23:23, but 28 hours there should be easy, even after Bighorn and Massannutten. Fat Tire Amber Ale please! :-)

    Hey Karl,
Glad to see we’ll be seeing you in Virginia twice this year. Grindstone is a great course. Parts of it are on what we fondly refer to as “TWOT” (the Wild Oak Trail), which is possibly my favorite trail in Virginia. Nice set-up for a 100….loop course that starts and finishes in at a boyscout (or is it a bible?) camp, so there’s easy camping about 50 yards from the start/finish.

    See you at MMT….
