I just finished a more "scientific" approach to the entrants predictions that may help identify some of the dark horses in future races.  Although not perfect, it does help filter the entrants list.  There are a couple shortcomings to this method.  First, it's only as good as the quality of my database of historical results.  Secondly, it will overweight runners who participate in non-competitive races.  Nevertheless, hope it helps.
