This past weekend lots of stuff happened…. UROC was the “big dance”, the leader got lost and Roes won by default.  I won’t get into my race report on this one, I’ll leave that up to Bryon Powell at Irunfar.  He was there.  I was at the Bear 100 crewing. Mike Morton, a legend in his own right, remember him?  He was the previous record holder at Western States when Scott Jurek broke the record.  He almost broke Scott’s 24 hour run at Hinson Lake 24 hour this past weekend too.  Sick run! I had the pleasure to hang out at the Bear 100 crewing my wife Cheryl in her attempt to finish her second 100 miler.  The Bear often gets a bad wrap in course marking, and this year it was good until some arsehole ATV’ers took the ribbons down for  a section and brought them back to the aid [...]

This year marks the “innaugural” UROC 100k “race of champions”.  It should be a decent race up front, hopefully the race will go off without any snags, wrong turns, horrible weather, or anything else that can happen.  The race has previously existed as the GEER 100k, but with limited entrants.  The course is now different, so essentially it’s a different race.   Wintergreen Resort looks to be a great place to have the start/finish, and should accomodate all the “champions”. So below is are my Speedgoat Odds: 1.  Dave Mackey  3-2.  Dave gets the nod for sure.  He’s the leading candidate for UROY, and could seal the deal now if he takes home the whopping $2500 to the kiddos.   Dave rarely is beaten at any race below 100k. Miwok, Waldo, the list goes on.  Dave will win. 2. Geoff Roes  3-1.  One of the few that can hang with Dave in the [...]

First off, Congrats to Evan Honeyfield and Becky Wheeler for winning the Wasatch 100 this year! Evan ran a tough, strong race off the front once he took the lead to win it in 19:31.  The third fastest Wasatch ever.  Becky ran strong early, had a few struggles, but managed to take home her first skull.  Luke Nelson ran second with the fastest split from Brighton (5:09) joining the elite few to break 20 hours running 19:52.  And now my story….. Back (no pun intended) in July, I dropped from the Hardrock 100 at mile 81 due to a bulging disc, which had been slowly getting worse since mile 40ish.  I did the right thing there, not putting myself in danger of really injuring myself so bad that running could be in jeopardy the rest of my life.  All injuries heal, but had I gone further, it would likely have not [...]
