Speedgoat 50k Entry begins January 1st

December 17 2010, 9:21 am

It’s that time of year again to sign up for the toughest 50k in town.  Last year we closed 2 months before the actual race date.  This year I expect to close earlier.  We will be accepting 250 runners this year, up 50 from last season.  More goats means more fun and entertainment for me.  🙂  Registration begins here.

On another note:  It seems I’m still not recovered from the Red Bull Human Express. This past weekend, while on the east coast I threw in a race they call “The Hellgate 100k“.  Although the distance was a piece of cake, running fast was not a piece of cake.  After about 15 miles I came to realize that my legs are still quite fried from 50 miles a day.  It’s been 6 weeks since I finished the epic run.

When I ran the Appalachian Trail in 2008, I waited 10 weeks to race at the North Face 50 where I ran 8:20.  Still slow for my standards, but I felt pretty good, just a little slow.  At Hellgate, my legs were on fire after 15 miles…..yah, not recovered yet.  The Hellgate course is a great one and should be on everyone’s to-do list.  Starting at 12:01am puts the sleep monster on everyone’s back.  He was on my back at 9am!

What’s up next for me?  If all goes well, I’ll get that sled track up to speed while taking about a week and a half off of running, then I’ll be training hard for a potential run at the Rocky Raccoon 100.  I’m still debating on it though, as I watch how my training and recovery progresses.  I like 100s….

The Hoka One One’s are still flying off the shelves…..and stay tuned for a new model we call the “Bondi”, it’s a slightly smaller version of the Mafate (the one we have now).  It’s a little lighter, a little smaller, and a little faster…..and certainly just as comfortable!  It should be out early next season.  In the meantime, it’s “Time to Fly” in the Mafate’s.  You can find em’ here if your desire is to run in comfortable shoes.

Meanwhile, for all those last minute folks, Backcountry.com still has great deals, check em’ out here, but don’t procrastinate too long, St. Nick is already at the warehouse loading his sleigh.

Lastly, for those interested in some advice for next year’s ultrarunning season, check out my coaching services page.  Don’t wait too long, this is the time of year to get it rolling again.

Now go run!
