The Wasatch 100 and a Human Express adventure!

September 9 2010, 1:03 pm

First a look at the Wasatch 100 and who’s fast…..

1.  Nick Clark  3-1.  We have to give Nick the nod.  He’s had a great year.  4th at Western 16:05, second at the Speedgoat, ran 4 hours flat at Pikes Peak a few weeks ago. He’s the man to beat, unless Irv’s torture chamber gets him late.

2.  Kevin Schilling  4-1.  The fastest in Salt Lake this year.  He beat Nick at the Speedgoat 50k, but hasn’t really killed it at 100 miles.  If anyone is due to finally nail Wasatch, it’s Kevin.

3.  Nick Pedatella  5-1.  Another fast kid who’s due to win something bigger.  He’s finished a few 100s close, but hasn’t closed the deal yet.

4.  Matt Hart  6-1.  Matt can run with the best and if he takes the right approach and runs his own race, he may show up in Heber first.  He’s been sleeping at 9000′ for the past  5 weeks.  That won’t hurt his chances.

5.  Larry O’neil  7-1.  Probably in the best shape he’s ever been for Wasatch.  He’s got the ability to run under 21, so who knows.  He’s certainly the most competitive out there.  He needs to play his own game, and take a few risks at the same time to hang up front.

6.  Luke Nelson  7-1 too.  Luke will go out faster than Larry, but I bet these two will end up close near the end.  Luke has more speed than the rest, but he’s got to keep the rest together too.

7.  Erik Storheim  10-1.  Another local pretty fast guy. His best day will get him under 21.  He’s due to really nail a 100 too.  This is a great course for him, being technical and ugly.

8.  Jared Campbell  12-1.  Always under 24, and like many others ahead of him, can break 21.  If it all clicks and he gets numb, this year’s Hardrock champ will finish strong again.

9.  Dave Hunt  14-1. Running without a pacer scares him, but I think he’ll scare the competition if he feels like someone is chasing him.

10.  Chad Tomlinson, Kevin Dorsey, Mick Jurynec, should all break 24 hours, amongst a few others I probably missed.

1.  And for the ladies, it’s all Darcy Africa to the finish, Sarah Evans, our local favorite from Alta chasing all day.

THE RED BULL HUMAN EXPRESS STARTS SEPTEMBER 15TH AT ROUGHLY 6AM IN OLD TOWN SACRAMENTO.

The roughly this for the next 45 days along the Pony Express route.  It’ll be an interesting adventure for me as it’s not a mountain run, but more of a run AROUND lots of mountains.  Lots of dirt road and straight angles.  Here we go again.

This will be the website to follow, along with www.redbull.com/humanexpress/.   Live tracking along the way and blogging as much as possible.  It’ll be remote in Nevada and western Utah.  Wyoming and Nebraska were pretty solid with service.
