The Lake Sonoma 50 mile will easily be the most competitive “early season” 50 mile.  The field is stacked deep.  John Medinger over at Ultrarunning Mag has assembled a stout list of trail runners, racing for some fine brew at the finish line.   It’s sure to be nuts up front.  A peleton may even form, something we rarely see in Ultrarunning.  Of course, it’ll be men up front, but the women’s field should not be overlooked either.  Although  it’s not nearly as deep as the men, it’s deep enough to make it a great competition.  Although, I’m not sure if there will be any beer left for the ladies with all these boys in front.   It’s been a while, but here goes my odds: Men’s Race: 1.  Dave Mackey  3-1.  It’s his turn to come out on top.  It’s been what, one race since he hasn’t won something? This weekend, well Friday (cuz’ we’re in Utah) I’ll be running the Antelope Island 100 mile.  This will be my second 100 this year. I’m not really sure what to expect, but feel pretty good physically to run around 15 hours.  That, of course, is if all goes well.  I’ve had off and on battles with Neuritis in my left foot, and it’s been giving me a little grief lately.  Sure sounds like a pre-race excuse eh?  Not really, but it’ll be interesting to see if I can work this one out. In my favor is the course being almost flat.  Downhill is a little sketchy, uphill is good and flat is fine too, but cranking downhill could cause the feeling of putting the wet finger in the outlet.  It’s not pretty when that happens.  We’ll see Dan Vega proves to be the stiffest competition, with a few other faster [...]

I’d like to say I finished two 100 milers in 6 days, but I can’t say that as the C2M Hurricane threw that plan out the window…but it felt like 2 100s.  I have no official finish at C2M, so I’ll let that be.  My official finish at the Antelope Island Buffalo Run comes in as the first loser.  I ran 16:07, only 6 days after 78 miles and 24k of vert in So Cal.  I think it’s pretty hard to complain about running this fast on super sore legs.  The soreness began about 200 yards from the start line.  I expected it.  The mental challenge was what I was  looking for, and I found it.  Dan Vega was clearly on his game as he was easily the fastest guy out there this weekend, each time I closed, he just pushed a bit harder and put some time on me.  [...]
