Speedgoat 50k update #2
First off I want to say thanks for everyone who is offering to help me mark the course! It is super cool to know I have friends to help when I’m down and out right now. For anyone interested in helping, it’ll probably happen mostly on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, July 26-27. Contact me at speedgoatkarl@gmail.com if you feel so inclined. I”ve been told from Roch Horton, our Pacific Mine aid station chief, to finally throw in the white flag and ask for help. I’m not one to ask for help on anything, but the way my back feels now, I may need some. 🙂
REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED! Please at this point don’t try and schmooze me :-), as race bibs are gonna be assigned tonight. That’s the final process creating the runners list.
1. The snow has been melting real fast, but still expect to be on snow for some of the course, this is a reality this year, so deal with it.
2. Poles are a good choice for this race as the climbs are steep, rocky, and open so not to snag poles on vegetation. Not many races are good for poles, but this race is. If you use poles, you must carry them the whole way. I like this rule as it’s used in Europe at most races, this makes it more of a self sufficient race. Please respect this rule if you plan on using poles. Cheaters will be penalized 1 hour, but not disqualified…another European rule….time penalties. So, no poles in that drop bag at the summit, that would obviously be evidence of cheating.
3. If you have a crew, they are welcome to crew at the Tunnel Aid Station, however no drop bags are allowed there, so crew will have to bring your crap to the Tunnel. 🙂
4. NO PACERS! This is a self-sufficient race.
5. Drop bags are at the Hidden Peak Aid Station only! You will pass by this aid station at mile 8.3 and mile 26.2. Please use only one bag, the second time through, you’ll know exactly where it is, so it should be easy. They will also be in numerical order on your first run through, so we can get you in and out quickly.
6. PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY ON SATURDAY MORNING!! This year we have 90 more runners than last year, so registration will be crowded more than ever. We’ll have Drymax socks for every participant, so the earlier you show up, the better that size selection will be.
7. For the record, we have over 100 prizes to give away. There will be a list of prizes near the registration table. We do not do age groups, we select a prize, then randomly select a place. These prizes and places correspond with each other and if you place in a spot that takes a prize, you’ll get it when you cross the finish line, eliminating any “awards ceremony”. When is giving awards away a “ceremony” anyway?
8. All runners are required to check OUT of aid stations, not in. We will have a few people doing this, please remember your number when you go by, also please have number visible on the FRONT of your body, not on your hat, on your pack…..we need to see it to help us.
9. Other awards:
First Place: $500, Patagonia Down Sweater, and the coveted Goat Leg! Also another $500 if a record is broken, currently 5:43.20 held by Kevin Schilling, and 6:20.11 held by Keri Nelson.
Second Place: $100, Patagonia Down Sweater, Sweet Goat Photo
Third Place: Patagonia Down Sweater, Sweet Goat Photo
Dead Last Award: Self Explanatory, not gender specific, just dead last. Dead Goat Photo
First Runner from Japan: (cuz’ we have 5) Black Diamond Sprinter Headlamp.
Put your hooves on, you’re gonna need em!
