Speedgoat 50k update:

July 13 2011, 5:50 am

Quick brief update here:

1.  The Waitlist option will end on Sunday this week, that’s July 17 at midnight.  If you intend on running and have not entered, get on the list now for a chance to get in.  Noone will be accepted after this date, no exceptions.  For the record, the waitlist is real small right now, and chances of getting in are in the 98-100% range. 🙂  Click here to enter on the waitlist.

2.  Snow:  Yes, there is snow on the course right now, and it’s quite deep, however, it’s July and it is really gonna melt fast these next two weeks.  Plan on having a little snow in some areas, along with a buttslide down Little Cloud Bowl on the final descent.  There may also be a few areas where we cross a steep slope on snow,  but this is around mile 21 and the snow will be soft but consolidated, making it a bit frustrating, but doable.  NO SKIS, NO SKINS, or big drop bags.  I”ve been asked about these things already.  If you want to bring skis, you gotta carry them all the way……that should eliminate that factor.  🙂

3.  For those of you who need to bail out, do it now, before that waitlist is taken away.  If I am not informed of you wanting to bail by July 25 (Monday before the race), you will NOT have the option of a one year roll-over.

4.  Put your game face on, it’s gonna be epic!

HARDROCK:  What happened to me?

Simple answer:  I had to bail at mile 81 at the Chapman Aid Station, due to developing sciatica, which was forcing me to start walking with a limp and a bit sideways. Not a good scenario for the last 20 miles of any race, especially Hardrock.  I did the right thing, sitting here now…..it’s not pretty.  All I can hope for at the moment is to get rid of this crap so I can mark the Speedgoat course in a few weeks.   UTMB at the moment is a………who knows…….
