HURT 100 coming this weekend!

Paul Hopwood is off to a rapid start running the first lap in 3:33, probably one of the fastest laps ever!  Barger is not far behind.  Roes is sitting perfectly about 15 minutes back.  I’ll give Paul another lap with the lead until Geoff picks him off.  Barger is tough too, but will fade on the 3rd lap…….we’ll see!

Gotta love the play by play…..Roes took the lead earlier than expected, he probably got bored.  Hopwood is running very well at this point and seems to have been startled by Geoff.  Geoff is gone as far as I’m concerned now.  Watch Goggins creep up on Barger and Hopwood.

ROES KILLS IT AGAIN!!!!    20:28

Matt Estes’ record gets shaved another 15 minutes, now we’ll be talking about breaking 20 hours there.  Scares me to think what Geoff may run at Wasatch this year!  He certainly has proven in every race he’s run that he’s one of the best in sport right now!  Congrats Geoff!

I’m sure Geoff will have a great write-up when he returns to the great white north, check that out in a few days at “Fumbling Towards Endurance”

The real competitive race is Barger and Hopwood duking it on the last lap for 2nd, we’ll see who perseveres now that the course is ripped up and slicker than zips ass.   Both are on the edge of breaking 24 hours.

Once upon a time everyone thought 24 hours wasn’t breakable………Hah!

Bummed I had to bail on this one, but hey, the economy is bad, right?

Here’s my picks:

Geoff Roes  2-1.  Noone should touch Geoff, his 20:01 at Wasatch was an indicator of how fast he is, not to mention his 5th place showing at the NF 50 in December.  If he’s recovered from that his lead will increase every lap and  he’ll win by 2 hours.
David Goggins  4-1.  He’s next in line, he’s got more experience than the rest and is tougher than everyone.
Dan Barger  6-1.  Dan hasn’t raced many ultras lately, but his adventure racing background makes him worthy of the 3rd spot.
Whit Rambach  8-1.  Will run a solid race, but not quick enough on the greasy rocks.
Jamie Gifford  8-1.  He and Whit will duke it out for 4th place.
Paul Hopwood  12-1.  Previous winner and experienced at HURT, but he’ll have better comp this time and will hope to slip into 5th or better with a good run.
Luis Escobar  14-1.  I don’t think the leader will lap him this time,  he’ll stay on the lead lap
MIke Sweeney 17-1.  Sweeney has won here before, a few years past in a time of 24:55 (I think) so with a good day could slip into the top 5.
Kyle Amos  18-1.  Great 100 mile times last year, but this course is ugly.  He has run well when it’s smooth, but his results on rougher courses puts him at 18-1.   He could be the sleeper though, so watch out boys.

Women:

Suzanna Bon  3-2.  Hands down the fastest here, and I believe she likes mud.
Monica Scholz  5-1.  Another veteran that’ll get it done, but doesn’t have the speed of Suzanna
Kathy D’Onofrio  8-1.  She’ll be in third or better if she runs smart, occasionally she goes out too fast.
Catra Corbett  10-1.  She’s in it for the fun of it, she’ll have the best time.
