Once again, a bit behind in creating some masterful post.  This past weekend brought me to the Red Hot 50k down in Moab, Utah.   The competition here is usually pretty solid, this year was no different.  I had no real goals this time around, it being only two weeks after running 14:17 at the Rocky Raccoon 100, what could I expect here, maybe 4:45?  Seems as though the auto-pilot continues to work even at my ripe old age of 44.  I ended up 3rd in 4:19.43,  pretty close to my best time of 4:13 ish.  Kevin Koch won and Eric Bohn took second, Kevin ran around 4:11, I was too busy socializing to check the exact time.  I ran every step of the course, which was goal #1, it felt easy and I am encouraged heading into my next race, the Antelope Island 100 in 5 weeks. Needless to say, it’s been a busy month:  I have been going non-stop for the past 30 days.  Running, working, building a luge run, putting up signs, shoveling snow, doing a podcast, cleaning up my flooded basement, going to the doctor, working some more, buying new appliances…..well, I think we all get the picture, sometimes doing a new post gets put on the backburner.  And tomrorrow, I’m off to the Rocky Raccoon 100 to see what kind of shape I’m in.    My picks, here ya go… 1.  Ian Sharman  3-2 gets the nod cuz’ of his spectacular 12:44 last year, obviously he’s the front runner.  The bullseye on his back is gonna be tough to hit, even from a short distance.  Not many guys will be close enough, even after one lap to even open fire, except… 2.  Hal Koerner 5-3, who after the HURT 100 screw up, is probably [...]

OK, so this will be the first of many “Speedgoat Odds” predictions for races in 2012.  The Bandera 100k looks like a good start, so here we go….. 1.  Dave Mackey  3-2.  Dave goes in as the favorite being the record holder, and is gonna have to run fast to win, but his track record is pretty stout on courses 100k or shorter.  After NOT going to JFK and the NF50, Mackey’s legs have got to be itchin to run hard and he will do just that.  2. Nick Clark  3-1.  Nick just put in some speedwork, winning his infamous “Vertical Beer Mile”.  I would bet his tired summer legs are behind him, along with everyone else but Dave. 3.  Tim Olson  4-1.  Tim has been gaining momentum the past few years and is just on the edge of breaking through with a big win.  His NF50 performance shows he’s in great form, and [...]
